Who are GiveWay?

Founded in 1998, consisting of four sisters: Fiona (fiddle, guitar, low D and feet), Kirsty (piano accordion and two row button box), Mairi (keys), and Amy (drums/percussion).

GiveWay play a heady mix of Scottish traditional and folk music, from haunting airs, to lively jigs and energetic reels with maybe, the odd song as well.
After playing for several years in competitions and clubs all over the UK, the band got its real big break when they won the prestigious 'Danny' awards at Celtic Connections in 2001. This kick started a great year, which saw the band broadcast on some of BBC Scotland's well known radio shows.
Winning the 'Danny' got GiveWay their first folk festival at Stonehaven, supporting Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain, much fun was had by all! The concert was a great success for the band, with an invite for the band to return the following year assured.
December 2001 GiveWay competed in the finals of the 'BBC Radio 2 Young Folk awards'. They were delighted to be selected from a fantastic group of musicians and singers, to be awarded the 2001 title.
January 2002, saw the band back at Celtic Connections, in Glasgow, to play two concerts supporting Karen Matheson, and Aly Bain, also doing a live broadcast for 'BBC Radio Scotland'.
February 2002, off again down to London, this time to appear in the 'Main Folk awards' concert, to appear alongside some great names in the folk world, such as Cherish the Ladies, Kate Rusby and Natalie MacMaster to name but a few, it was a great thrill!
